Jeep Grand Wagoneer vs Cadillac Escalade

Two American full-size flagships, and the spec sheets do not split them the way the badges suggest. The Grand Wagoneer measures roomier in the third row and tows more; the Escalade carries more at maximum. The price gap runs the other way from the numbers. Both are 2026 models.

TL;DR

Summary

The Grand Wagoneer leads where the third row is concerned: 36.6 in of legroom against 34.9, 39.0 in of headroom against 38.2, and 27.9 cu ft behind that row against 25.5. Its second row is roomier too, 42.7 in against 41.7.

It also tows 10,000 lb to the Escalade's 8,100 — though the Jeep figure is config-gated to the 4WD standard-wheelbase truck with the 3.92 axle, not every build.

The Escalade takes cargo once the seats fold: 72.9 cu ft behind row two against 70.8, and 120.5 at maximum against 116.7. Both seat eight. The Grand Wagoneer runs $62,145 to $93,390; the Escalade $91,100 to $172,220.

marks the larger figure on measures where more is literally more. Price and exterior dimensions are left unmarked on purpose — a higher price is not a win, and a longer, wider body buys cabin space at the cost of garage and parking fit. Rows are also left unmarked where the models tie, or where either figure is unavailable.

The third row

36.6 in of legroom in the Grand Wagoneer against 34.9 in the Escalade, and 39.0 in of headroom against 38.2. That is a 1.7 in legroom margin in a class where the differences are usually tenths, and it holds on standard-wheelbase figures for both — the long-wheelbase Grand Wagoneer L and Escalade ESV are separate vehicles this site records separately.

Cargo behind the third row goes the same way, 27.9 cu ft against 25.5. If the question is how much vehicle is behind the second row, the Jeep answers it better.

Cargo flips once you fold

With the third row down the Escalade pulls ahead: 72.9 cu ft against 70.8. At maximum it is 120.5 against 116.7. Both figures are published behind row one, so they are measured on the same basis.

So the two split the cargo job: the Grand Wagoneer holds more with everyone aboard, the Escalade holds more once the seats are down.

Towing, with the caveat

10,000 lb against 8,100. The Jeep number is the marketing headline and it is real, but it is gated: it applies to the 123-inch-wheelbase 4WD with the 3.92 axle. A rear-drive standard-wheelbase Grand Wagoneer is rated 6,210 lb, below the Escalade, and the L 4WD is 9,860.

The Cadillac's 8,100 is likewise its best case — 2WD, properly equipped; 4WD is 7,900. Check the build sheet against the trailer before either figure decides anything.

Third-row safety

The Grand Wagoneer documents two third-row LATCH lower-anchor positions, both outboard, with the centre position carrying an explicit prohibition against LATCH installation. The Escalade's manual maps no third-row lower anchors at all and prescribes belt-plus-tether there instead. Both carry three top tethers.

Two rows differ on what is published rather than on what is fitted. Cadillac enumerates curtain coverage by row and documents a second- and third-row belt reminder; Stellantis describes its curtains by window rather than by row, so third-row coverage is recorded as not published, and its BeltAlert is scoped in writing to the front seats only. Those are documentation facts, and this site does not infer past them.

Price

$62,145 to $93,390 against $91,100 to $172,220. A loaded Grand Wagoneer costs roughly what a base Escalade costs, and the Cadillac ladder then climbs another $78,830 beyond anything Jeep sells. Both figures exclude destination.

When each one fits

Jeep Grand Wagoneer: The roomier third row, more cargo behind it, the higher tow ceiling in the right configuration, and a starting price $28,955 lower.

Cadillac Escalade: More cargo with the seats folded, fully documented third-row curtain coverage and belt reminder, and a trim ladder that runs far past the Jeep's.
