Owner's Manual OM0E154U (2026 Grand Highlander, 603 pp), located via the Helm catalogue. ANCHORS = 1, ROW-ENUMERATED VERBATIM p.62: 'LATCH anchors are provided for the following seats. Second outboard seats (8-passenger models) / Second seats (7-passenger models) / Third right seat.' Only the third RIGHT seat — no centre, no left. TETHERS = 2, row-enumerated across pp.65-66: the anchor-bracket list ends 'Third center and right seats'. REMINDER = true, p.482: 'Warns the second and/or third seat passengers to fasten their seat belts. An indicator corresponding to an unfastened second or third seat seat belt will illuminate' — third row named explicitly, though it shares one rear-passenger indicator with row 2. CURTAIN = true, FIGURE-SUPPORTED, corrected from null 2026-08-24 for CONSISTENCY WITH THIS SITE'S OWN TREATMENT OF THE IDENTICAL TOYOTA/LEXUS EVIDENCE. p.37 'SRS airbag system' cutaway: item E 'SRS curtain shield airbags' is drawn as a continuous panel along the roofline extending aft over the third-row seating area, in a three-row cabin. The accompanying text is NOT row-enumerated — 'Help reduce impact to the heads of the occupants of the front and rear outer seats' — which is the same sentence Toyota/Lexus print in the GX 550, LX and TX manuals. This dataset already records curtain=true for all three on that basis: TX verbatim, 'text is NOT row-enumerated (front and rear outer seats); the SRS cutaway on the same page shows the curtain extending over the third-row seating area — figure-supported'. Nulling the Grand Highlander on identical evidence applied a stricter standard to the family batch than to the luxury batch; the original null is withdrawn. STATUS raised partial -> verified, matching the TX rather than the GX 550 / LX: the Grand Highlander's anchors, tethers AND reminder are all row-enumerated verbatim ('Third right seat', 'Third center and right seats', 'the second and/or third seat passengers'), where the GX 550 and LX stay partial because their reminders are not row-enumerated. Only the curtain rests on the figure. CPST CONTEXT (third-party, NOT a source for any value above): Cars.com's Car Seat Check found 'one set on the passenger side' and 'two sets on the passenger side and middle seatbacks' — independently matching Toyota's own 1 anchor / 2 tethers. No 2026-model CPST check exists; that article tested a 2024.

Hardware facts only. No U.S. crash-test programme instruments third-row occupants, so this site publishes what the vehicle has rather than a rating. Confirm against the owner's manual and sit in the vehicle before buying. Compare third-row LATCH across every model → How we source safety data →

Persona scores

Calibration in progress. Persona scoring will appear here once our editorial rubric has been applied against verified specs.

Best for

  • Third-row adults on a family budget — 33.5 inches of legroom, second only to the Tahoe among the family models here.
  • Households wanting a hybrid without moving to a luxury badge: Hybrid and Hybrid MAX are catalogue trims above the gas base.
  • Eight-seat capacity, with a second-row bench or captain's chairs depending on trim.

Watch out for

  • Toyota equips only the third row's right-hand seat with LATCH lower anchors — the centre and left positions have none.
  • Third-row headroom of 37.2 inches is the least of the family models here.
  • Toyota's manual describes curtain coverage as reaching the rear outer seats without naming rows; the third-row value rests on its own cabin cutaway.
